We pride ourselves on honesty, integrity, and commitment to our students, educators, and administrators.  We strive for athletic excellence by promoting and developing student leadership and are committed to fostering gender equity and fair opportunities for students/athletes, coaches, and athletic administrators.

Commissioner's Message

The 2013-2014 competitive seasons are nearly completed. It has been a very productive year for the student athletes and institutions representing the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference. We continue to push forward in both athletic and academic performances. This year’s Female and Male Scholar Athlete nominations were incredible. I have not seen such an impressive list of nominees during my tenure as the commissioner. This made for a difficult process in identifying only one representative from each group. The female athlete selected was Megan Kurtz representing Grossmont College and the male athlete selected was Albert Gomes of San Diego Mesa College. They will move forward to the 3C2A office to be considered in recognition for the Female and Male Scholar Athlete of the Year for the State organization.

As the Pacific Coast Conference continues to grow in both college membership and hosting opportunities, we will also continue to emphasize and represent the highest level of sportsmanship and commitment to our student athletes. This expectation will be shared with host institutions and they will be held to the same standards. We are excited about the opportunities to grow and continue our commitment to the student athletes representing the PCAC.

As your commissioner, I would like to thank individual college administrators, athletic directors, coaches, academic advisors and support staff for their efforts in making the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference the best it can be for our student athletes. They are the reason we exist and our most important resource.

Enjoy your summer and I look forward to an exciting 2014-2015 sport seasons.

John Woods
Commissioner

Grossmont College edged out San Diego Mesa by 213.5 points to 211 points to win the 2013-14 Chet DeVore Award, emblematic of the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference member college with the most successful men’s and women’s intercollegiate athletic program for the academic year.

The award is named after the late Chester S. "Chet" DeVore, founding Commissioner of the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference. DeVore was President / Superintendent of Southwestern College in Chula Vista from 1961, when he supervised construction and development of its new Chula Vista campus, until his retirement as one of the nation's most respected community college CEOs 21 years later. He became the first Commissioner of the PCAC, the host conference for community college athletics in San Diego County and Imperial County, in 1982. He served until his retirement from that post in 1998. DeVore, a World War II hero and Purple Heart and Bronze Star recipient who left a long legacy both in academics and athletics at the college, conference, state and national levels, died in January 2011.
